KOCHI, Feb. 25

CARDAMOM prices increased on short supply at the auction centres and primary markets in Kerala and Tamil Nadu last week.

The arrivals at auction centres was around 68 tonnes and the average price during the week was over Rs 660 per kg. Daily arrivals in the primary markets were only 5-10 tonnes as major growers were holding back superior grades anticipating a price rise.

The highest price of Rs 849 was quoted at Vandanmedu on February 23 while the lowest Rs 308 at Bodinayakkanur on February 17. Total sales during the current season up to February 23 stood at 2,537 tonnes at the average price of Rs 607.20 per kg as against 3,006 tonnes at average price of Rs 570.48 per kg during the same period last season.
