Foreign Direct Investment Government - Policy `Final decision' on FDI in print after panel report Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, Feb. 22 THE Information and Broadcasting Minister, Ms Sushma Swaraj, has said that the final decision on foreign direct investment in the print media will be taken after the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology submits its report. Speaking to newspersons at her weekly Friday briefing, Ms Swaraj said that currently there is no proposal for allowing foreign investment in print and "status quo'' is being maintained. The report of the standing committee is expected to be tabled in the Budget session. The Government has also managed to fill up most of the vacancies on the Prasar Bharati board. "Only two posts need to be filled and will be done shortly,'' said Ms Swaraj. The Prasar Bharati board has one chairman, a chief executive officer, six part-time members, one member - Personnel and one member - Finance. The Minister also added that the film industry would be represented at the Cannes film festival in a big way. Both FICCI and CII have agreed to extend financial support for this. The Ministry is also trying to have a screen tribute of one great Indian film persona at the festival.
