CHENNAI, Feb. 20. THE US-based OmegaTech Inc, a biotech R&D company, has entered into a marketing agreement with Vasta Marketing, Chennai, to market DHA Gold, a long chain fatty acid applicable as a nutrition supplement and food additive with beneficial health properties. According to Mr Jan Haakonsen, General Manager, Asia-Pacific Operations, OmegaTech, DHA is a long chain omega-3 fatty acid derived from a marine algae, and has wide ranging clinically-proved health benefits. The product is docosahexaenoic acid obtained from cultured marine algae, schizochytrium sp, through a patented technology developed by OmegaTech, he said. Vasta Marketing, as an ingredient supplier, will import the algae in dried powder form and as oil extracted from the algae, according to Mr S.N. Srikanth, Director, Vasta Markting. These will be available in bulk packs for supply to a wide range of industries including manufacturers of pharmaceuticals and neutraceuticals, baby foods, processed foods and animal feeds. The algae powder can be used to enrich animal feeds. The oil can be used to make gel capsules or added to a wide range of food products to enhance nutritional value.
