Govt earmarks Rs 4.5 cr for tourism meet

NEW DELHI, Feb. 14
THE Government has earmarked Rs 4.5 crore for the 51st annual conference of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) scheduled to begin in Delhi on April 14.
Speaking to newspersons on Thursday, the Director-General of Tourism, Mr V.K. Duggal, said that the conference is to be attended by about 1,500 delegates including officials from the travel and tourism industry. He also released the logo for the annual session.
The four-day event, to be addressed by the Prime Minister, Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee, will focus on diverse issues including `The changing world and its impact on tourism' and `Economic and demographic changes in the new world order'. In addition, there will be panel discussions on `Learning from the past to prepare for future success' and on `Sustainable tourism in a fragile environment'.
However, the former US President, Mr Bill Clinton, will not attend as scheduled.
