Coir Coir Board to set up info centre Our Bureau
KOCHI, Jan. 25 THE Coir Board is setting up an IT-enabled Coir Trade Information Centre (CTIC) here to facilitate promotion of coir and coir products in the domestic and international markets. The board has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this connection with the National Centre for Trade Information (NCTI) here on Thursday. Mr Christy Fernandez, Chairman, Coir Board, told reporters that CTIC would build a Web site on coir and offer a complete database of Indian coir products exporters. The Centre would also provide information pertaining to global trade statistics to identify new markets and opportunities. With the commissioning of this Centre in about a month's time, all pre-delivery transactions could be done online. The primary objective of the centre was to study the markets in 20 countries in general, China , the US, Germany and Sri Lanka, in particular. CTIC would function as a facilitating centre providing information apart from assisting the industry to promote their products, he said. Dr Shyam S. Aggarwal, Executive Director, NCTI, said the Centre being a trade point,India under the trade efficiency programme of UNCTAD, received live enquiries from all over the world, which could be disseminated to the coir industry on a periodical basis.
