MUMBAI, Jan. 23

AS part of its two-fold strategy in India, BNP Paribas is looking at focussing on new opportunities emerging in the areas of asset management and consumer finance.

The Chief Executive and Country Manager, BNP Paribas, Mr Jonathan David Lyon, told presspersons here that the bank would also expand its retail operations.

According to Mr Lyon, "A delegation of senior officials from the bank is expected to come to India in early February to finalise the plans.''

He said the bank was exploring various options. "We could either set up a fully-owned consumer finance subsidiary or we could buy up a portfolio or enter into joint ventures,'' said Mr Lyon. Opens trade centres: BNP Paribas on Wednesday opened trade centres in Mumbai and Delhi to finance international trade with the Indian market.

The Head of International Trade, BNP Paribas, Mr Jacques Desponts, said: "The objective of these trade centres would be to act as one-stop shops for importers and exporters, providing them with a range of services.''
