Taxation Industry & Economy - Industry Associations DEPB scheme must continue: ESC Our Bureau
NEW DELHI: The Government should continue with the Duty Entitlement Pass Book (DEPB) Scheme as it has helped achieving quantum jump in exports, particularly of electronics goods, the Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) has said. "Withdrawal of popular schemes such as DEPB on the basis that such schemes including income tax exemptions are not compatible with the WTO, is certainly going to affect exports," said Mr D.K. Sareen, Executive Director of ESC. He said in a statement here that the DEPB scheme could be defined in such a way that it became WTO-compatible by including all types of indirect taxes incurred by the exporter. In its pre-Budget memorandum, ESC has also urged the Government to make the EPCG scheme more attractive to promote exports.
