Our Bureau

KOCHI: The technology mission on coconut is to concentrate on disease eradication and value-addition to coconut, according to Mr Hemendra Kumar, Special Secretary, Union Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation.

The Government would clear the proposal for technology mission on coconut very soon, he said inaugurating the 21st foundation day celebration of the Coconut Development Board here.

He said adequate funds had been provided to Nafed for procurement of copra and action initiated to streamline the procurement operation. Since the international price of coconut oil was unlikely to go up, new products should be developed from coconuts, he added.
