Mixed trend at Kochi sale

A MIXED trend persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. Though a fair general demand witnessed in the dust sale, it was comparatively low for leaf varieties.

Of the quantity of 886,000 kg on offer in the dust varieties, CTC good liquoring powdery sorts were fully firm to dearer. Others fairly steady and tended to ease while orthodox dust generally easier.

The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 55-74, medium CTC realised Rs 40-55 and poorer type were quoted Rs 30-36. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 100-120, while medium BOPD realised Rs 35-45. Residuals were quoted at Rs 20-23.

The leaf sale witnessed a less general demand and the quantity on offer was 511,000 kg. Orthodox medium, highgrown brokens and fannings were lower by Rs 2-3 and sometimes more. CTCs were steady to tending easier by Re1 and occasionally more. CIS buyers operated with less strength and other exporters were also less active.
