NEW DELHI, Jan. 12

BILT Chemicals Ltd has commissioned its citric acid plant at Vadodara. With this, the company has taken a step into the burgeoning area of biochemicals, according to a company release.

The plant has already gone on stream. With an expected capacity of over 25,000 tpa and incorporating Vogelbusch technology, BILT Chemicals is making fresh investments in further technological upgradations.

The product is being launched with the brand name Citrabilt. According to Mr Manoj Dutt, Managing Director, BILT Chemicals, ``We will be able to cater to the needs of the Indian consumer and provide them superior value. The Indian consumer who has been largely used to monohydrate citric acid can now upgrade to anhydrous citric acid.''

``At full capacity, we expect to export two-thirds of our production and make India a net exporter of citric acid,'' he said. BILT Chemicals produces bulk chemicals such as caustic soda, chlorine, hydrochloric acid, bromine and bromine chemicals, phosphoric acid and speciality phosphates.
