COIMBATORE, Jan 2

A HIGHGROWN leaf tea— Katary Silver Tips— fetched a whopping Rs 401 per kg at the first sale of the year at the Kochi auction on Wednesday.

Raised in Kateri Tea Estates, belonging to the AVT Group in Nilgiris, the tea was marketed by Forbes Ewart and Fibgis Pvt Ltd, Kochi.

Trade sources confirmed that a total quantity of 115 kg (5 bags of 23 kgs each) of Silver Tips was sold at Rs 401 per kg.

The market remained generally dull but for the off-take in the highgrown quality teas, the sources said.

About 90 per cent of the offered quantities were taken.

While the rates fell by Rs 2-3 per kg for the orthodox highgrown teas, the medium ones dipped by Rs 3-5 per kg. CTC teas witnessed a drop of Rs 2-3 per kg.

Russian activity was subdued but internal demand was reported to be good.
