Fishing industry

In his interview to Business Line (`Agriculture is an unfinished task for reforms programme', December 24) the Finance Minister, Mr Yashwant Sinha, has given some broad hints for tackling some problems. There was emphasis on giving importance to agriculture. But one main omission in the agenda is the fishing industry.

Marine exports are a major foreign exchange earner, with tremendous scope for improvement. And the problems of traditional fishermen, increased catch, infrastructure facilities of the industry, improving quality, and so on, are to be addressed. It is hoped the coming Budget will take care of the concerns of the industry.
