Hero Honda Dec sales down 8.3 pc

NEW DELHI, Jan. 1

HERO Honda Motors Ltd sold 122,499 motorcycles in December, which is lower than the 133,535 motorcycles sold in the festive month of November, a top company official said on Tuesday.

``The year-on-year sales is up by about 46 per cent in December,'' said Mr Atul Sobti, Senior Vice-President of the company.

``It is not all that bad that we are down about 8.3 per cent compared with November, which is the peak of sales of the festive season. December has the added disadvantage since customers want to buy 2002 model,'' he said.

Buoyed by the persistent strong growth in sales, Hero Honda has raised its sales target for the current financial year to 1.3 million units, against an earlier target of 1.3 millions.

According to an earlier plan, Hero Honda was targeting to sell 1.5 million motorcycles in 2002-03, for which it is looking at a green field site.
