Desi calibration cotton
AT a time when quality and cost competitiveness remain the guiding factors, the Central Institute for Research on Cotton's (CIRCOT) efforts in offering indigenously prepared calibration cotton on a commercial scale has come as a blessing to the textile m ills, since its import is both expensive and time consuming.

Cotton consumption unlikely to increase
WORLD cotton consumption, which declined in 2000-01 from the high of the previous year, is unlikely to grow in the current year, despite improved production and low prices. As a result, ending stocks are forecast to expand by as much as 25 per cent, augm enting supplies in 2002-03.

Robusta cherry up at ICTA sales
PRICES at the Indian Coffee Traders' Association (ICTA) auctions remained unchanged, except for robusta cherrys, which gained by Re 1 to Rs 2. The auctions saw fair offtake.

Rubber
Impasse in rubber trade
THE rubber market turned weak on Friday, mainly on account of the stalemate created by the statement of Sri K.M. Mani, the Kerala Revenue Minister, that the Government would reconsider the 5 per cent reduction in the purchase tax on rubber and rearrange it to benefit the growers.
