Book Review
Corporate amnesia
MEMORY is knowledge retention and organisational memory (OM) is the aggregation of individual experiences, explains Arnold Kransdorff in Corporate Amnesia. In its migrated form, OM is labelled ``brain drain where national frontiers are involved, poaching in the commercial sphere or secondment in the public sector.'' How do organisations forget? ``Whenever an individual leaves an organisation,'' writes Kransdorff, ``the organisation's hard-won and expensively acquired experiences literally walks out of t he door.'' Therefore, ``if 10 per cent of managers leave every year, then 50 per cent of a company's managerial knowledge potential will have dissipated within five years -- a classic case of throwing out the baby of experience with the organisational ba thwater.''
