Transient encounters of the peculiar kind
HE asked for a few peanuts and exchanged his life story during the short trip between VT and Byculla stations. This street urchin had three goals -- never to do anything that would disappoint his dead mother, to have a bath everyday, and be a dignified p erson. On the tiger trail, quietly
ON Thursday, G. Viswanatha Reddy suggested a morning trip into the Ranthambhore forest and we were in by 7.30 on Route 7. Till 10.30 we went round the jheels and water bodies but could not sight a tiger.

Guest appearance
The Ranganathittu bird sanctuary near Mysore is also home to more than 30 crocodiles. Visitors to the sanctuary have to be content watching the crocodiles when migratory birds are not present during off-season.
