Politics
Less statues, more ideals
In the write up on Thanthai Periyar (Business Line, October 9), the author has drawn attention to the rottenness in politics and public life. E. V. Ramaswamy Naicker (EVR), adored as Thanthai Periyar for his `self-respect' movement, fought for equal resp ect for the backward, weak and down-trodden. In the process, some of his words and deeds became controversial. He preached against idol worship and without considering the `larger' sentiments, he organised the `idol-breaking' agitation.
