TN for State-wise MSP for crops
THE minimum support price (MSP) for crops should be fixed State-wise because of wide variation in costs of production, according to the Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister, Mr S. Arumugam. A single MSP did not meet the requirement of farmers in Tamil Nadu wh ich did not have perennial rivers and irrigation costs were high, he said.

MPEDA mulls listing for shrimp farms
IN a bid to ensure supply of good quality seeds to the aquaculture farms for sustainable growth in this sector, the Marine Products Exports Development Authority (MPEDA) has proposed a scheme for the registration of shrimp hatcheries. This will provide a firm back up to the code of practices recently evolved by MPEDA.

$20 m credit guarantee for US agri commodity sales to India
THE US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has authorised $20 million in credit guarantees for the sales of US agricultural commodities to India under the Commodity Credit Corporation's (CCC) Export Credit Guarantee Programme (GSM-102) for the fiscal year 2 001.

Hatsun relaunches `Komatha' milk
AJITH Dairy Industries Ltd, which has been acquired by Hatsun Agro Product Ltd, has sought permission to expand its milk processing capacity from 60,000 litres per day to 1.75 lakh litres per day.

Indo-Australian JV for potato seed production
CHAMBAL Fertilisers and Chemicals Ltd (CFCL) and Technico Pty Ltd of Australia have formed a 21-million Australian dollar (around Rs 52 crore) joint venture for the production and marketing of high quality-technituber seed and early generation seed potat oes in India.

THE MIAMI-based Foodtrader.com, a leading online business-to-business marketplace and provider of eProcurement solutions for the food and agriculture industry, has secured over $15 million in second round financing through a private placement.

`Baseless claims' about poor quality shipment to Bangladesh -- ISGIEIC to file arbitration against Sucden
THE sugar industry has decided to go in for arbitration against the French trading company, Sucden, for its `baseless claims' about the alleged poor quality of an Indian sugar consignment shipped to Bangladesh last month.
