`Technology key to chem industry's survival'

`SAIL geared to face emerging competition'
STEEL Authority of India Ltd has formulated its production and marketing plans for 2000-01, keeping the distinct signs of domestic demand pick-up in view. SAIL also sees better export prospects, the growing trend of protectionism notwithstanding. In the domestic market, a new factor is the impending entry of Tata Steel in the cold-rolled product segment. And yet, the Chairman of SAIL, Mr. Arvind Pande, told this correspondent in an interview recently in New Delhi that SAIL has planned to sell more CR pr oducts. Excerpts:
