MSP increase unlikely to push up wheat prices
EVEN as the Government has raised the minimum support price (MSP) of the wheat crop to be marketed during the coming rabi season beginning April by Rs. 25 per quintal to Rs. 575 per quintal, traders here do not expect this to result in any major hardenin g of open market prices in the short run.

Plantation sector disappointed with Budget
THE captains of the plantation industry have voiced their disappointment that none of their pleas had been considered by the Finance Minister, Mr. Yashwant Sinha, while presenting his Budget for 2000-01.

Board fiat on poor quality teas
IN its bid to promote the sale of quality teas in the country, the Tea Board has issued a directive to its local offices to treat the sub standard poor quality teas as `tea waste' and deal with it accordingly.

Rubber
Rubber subsidy cut on the cards
A CUT in the subsidy for rubber cultivation is on the cards. As part of the proposal of the Union Finance Minister to cut subsidies in the Union Budget, the Central Government has initiated moves to curtail subsidy for replantation and new plantation.
